Award-Winning Designs

In Sam’s 18 years in the industry, his innovatively designed and superbly hand-crafted jewellery has won him several industry awards.

Sam's first major award came during his apprenticeship when he was awarded the gold medal at the Regional Workskills competition. Workskills is an international competition which selects the best young jewellers – along with people from other trades and professions - and puts them into a mentoring program with past winners of the competition. It is designed to enhance and focus the skills of the up-and-coming talent in each industry.

From winning the gold medal at the regional competition, Sam was given the opportunity to represent NSW at the national level of the competition, where he competed against people from not only Australia but New Zealand as well. There Sam placed 5th out of the 15 competitors in his category.

Sam’s next award was won in the year 2000, when he was awarded The People’s Choice Award for his final year pieces created during his design course. This was a graduation night award from which industry experts and the public were able to vote on their favourite piece of the night, taken from all 45 graduating students' works from their final year.  Sam also placed third in his Jewellery Trade course, the course is run as a state wide course with apprentices coming from all over NSW to study.

After Sam's apprenticeship, he entered a piece into the Jewellers Association of Australia’s bi-annual awards night which was put on display at the Hong Kong international jewellery trade fair that year.
